The new version of iMedia Linux is based on last XFCE as it's default desktop environment which provides a comfortable and user-friendly GUI environment and a graphical mod much lighter and more efficient than GNOME or KDE. While the last version of XFCE is only needed 16Mb it's takes up less space on your hard disk and low system requirements. The new desktop environment consists of a number of components that together provide the full functionality of the desktop environment like: window manager, file manager, a set of themes, and other programs and libraries.Features and capabilities
File Manager
Imedia Linux is using the new file manager Thunar from XFCE.org to provide an easy to use and still very lightweight user interface. Thunar implements FreeDesktop.org standards and supports all the file management functionality which users will expect, no configuration files needed. It is fast and responsive with a good start up time and directory load time.
Office and Text Editors
iMedia Linux comes with a number of light-weight, but full equipped of useful word processor and text editors like abiword, leafpadp or beaver program suitable for a wide variety of document processing tasks and pdf file format. With the new text editor you are able to read and write standard document types, such as OpenOffice.org documents, Microsoft Word documents, WordPerfect documents, Rich Text Format documents, HTML web pages and many more, and read pdf with ePDFViewer.
Configuration and settings
iMedia Linux integrate Xfce Settings Manager an easy to use configuration system to provides global settings information to other components and applications. There is a main control panel to access the configuration dialogs of all the components. Some examples of new settings dialogs were already shown in the sections above:
- The desktop manager utilizes Thunar's libraries to sets the background image and provides a root window menu, desktop icons or minimized icons and a windows list. This release introduces new options to customize the desktop to your needs. Some examples of new settings dialogs were already shown in the sections above.
- The window Manager manages the placement of application windows on the screen, provides a wide range of image support for window decoration (xpm, png, svg, bmp, jpg, gif), manages workspaces or virtual desktops, and natively supports multiscreen mode. Window manager includes a keyboard shorcuts editor for user specific commands and basic windows manipulations, and it provides a dialog for advanced tweaks.
- The panel manager featuring program launchers, panel menus, a clock, a desktop switcher and more. Multiple panels are supported out of the box now and can easily be configured using the new Panel Manager.The panel already comes with multiple plugins, like launchers, the taskbar or a menu plugin, allowing you to have more functionnalities.

Internet Suite
Firefox 2.0 is a powerful, award-winning and standards compliant web browser and Thunderbird is an application for e-mail and newsgroups, both applications from the Mozilla Foundation. With tabbed browsing you'll be able to use one window to view all your web pages. New features in 2.0 include inline spell check support in web forms, restore session that crashed, built in phishing detectors, better support for previewing and subscribing to web feeds, enhanced search engine management with built in OpenSearch support, and much more. Also Firefox comes with Adobe Flash player and MPlayer plug in instaled and properly configured making it easy to browse internet.

Manage your photos and images, and edit them with gImageView. GImageView is a yet another image viewer which solves hopless situation under displaying a lot of images and Image management. Import, organize, edit, crop, enhance, and share photos.
Multimedia
Featuring a suits of media applications you have access to multimedia files (movie, picture, audio). My Media System is an application that manages, displays and plays media content such as videos, music, pictures, and more. MMS runs perfectly on anything. It supports many common file formats, including MP3, OGG, DivX, XviD, VCD, SVCD, DVD, JPEG, PNG, and GIF. It is controlled using a remote control, USB device, or keyboard. It supports DXR3, DVB, X11, SDL, and framebuffer output. Just insert the media into the drive or plug the new drive in to the computer and an icon representing the removable volume will appear on the desktop. Also you may use the RealPlayer application to watch video, listen to music online. XMMS Linux player with Winamp 2.x looks supporting as many input formats, source code of AAC/MP4 plugin available in the FAAD2 CVS and download package.
